Cod

The cod is a wonderful edible fish with white, juicy meat. It is caught in the North Sea, the Kattegat, and the Skager-rak where it lives in the shallow waters along the coast as well as the great depths. Being a cold-water fish, it avoids shallow coastal waters where the water is heated up by the sun during the summer. Aker Seafoods only uses fresh cod for its production of MAP-packed Fish products, i.e. fish caught the same day as it is processed.

The cod changes colour according to its habitat, but it can always be recognised on its light-coloured lateral line, its overshot jaw and the barbel. It is an omnivorous predatory fish, feeding on members of the same species, other fish and shellfish. It can even swallow large crabs without having to chew the carapace.

The cod is one of the lean fish types having less than 2 g of fat per 100 g. It contains healthy fish oils – Omega-3 fatty acids – and various vitamins and minerals. It can be served in many different ways: Steamed, boiled, fried, baked in the oven or grilled in foil.

Aker Seafoods MAP-packed Fish uses cod for the following products:
