The plaice is a fine traditional edible fish with white, firm meat of excellent taste. It is the most important flatfish in Europe, and is caught by Danish fishermen in the North Sea, the Kattegat and the Skagerrak. Aker Seafoods only uses fresh plaice caught in the waters surrounding Denmark the same day it is processed.
The plaice is easily recognised by its brown, smooth upper side, where both eyes are located, and its white bottom. It lives on sandy or clayey bottoms down to depths of 200 metres. It prefers salty, cool waters. The plaice feeds on bottom fauna, bivalves and small fish.
