Coalfish

The coalfish is a lean fish, which is related to the cod. Its meat has a slight rosy grey colour and it is softer and has a more characteristic taste than that of the cod.

Coalfish live in shoals in the open sea where they often swim far in their hunt for herring. Sometimes they also swim into the coast to seek food. In addition to herring, coalfish feed on other small fish, fry and crustaceans.

Aker Seafoods only uses day fresh coalfish

The coalfish lives in the northeastern part of the Atlantic. In waters surrounding Denmark, the coalfish can be found in the Belts and the Sound. Aker Seafoods uses fresh coalfish from the North Sea, which is caught and landed the same day.

Fresh coalfish can be prepared in different ways: Steamed, boiled or fried in a pan, grilled or prepared in the oven.
